INTERVIEW WITH GARA PLANELLS (1ª parte)

the day 6 September the library of Sant Antoni celebrated the 40 anniversary of its foundation. Librarian Gara Planells was in charge of organizing the commemoration events, that include tributes to former workers and various children's activities. This interview with the administrator will be divided into two parts.: the first will be dedicated to the celebrations and the second, to general library topics.

INTERVIEW WITH JOSÉ M: The activities of the 40th anniversary have had a lot of following. Did you expect so much success??

INTERVIEW WITH JOSÉ M: Yes and no. In summer parents are busy and you wonder if they will be able to bring the children. Anyway, the workshops are very well received. The manga courses are the most followed and even people from other municipalities come to do them. We always end up making a waiting list so we can call everyone who is interested..

P: You do a lot of work with young children., How do you collaborate to bring them closer to culture??

R: We promote reading through storytelling. We try to cover all ages, but it is true that these types of activities are more recommended from the age of four. We plan activities aimed at younger children to introduce them to reading. We also do calligraphy workshops, de lettering and one that combined crafts with literature, that was very successful.

P: During tributes to former librarians, there was a memory to a donor. Who is this person?

R: Maria Ribas is a woman from the village who lives in Barcelona and who periodically sends us a box of books altruistically. Many people who have read library books have seen her signature on the copies she has donated and have come asking who this woman is.. She is very modest and does not care, but thanks to Maria the number of volumes we have has grown.
