guaret, in the Municipal Theater of Bunyola
guaret, City of Palma Award for Performing Arts 2020, arrives at the Municipal Theater of Bunyola.
This play, Directed by José Martret and authored by Pedro Mas, is a production of the Banana-Ros Collective. Inspired by the Mallorcan poet Damià Huguet, whose work fell into his hands after his father's death in 2014, But he decided to transform it into an original text with the help of Martret and Joana Castell, who also plays a role.
Son of a Mallorcan father and a Castilian mother, Pedro Mas finds his own Mallorcan identity in Huguet's poetry, in conflict with your other identity. Guaret is a show about the search for identity, where the cultural uprooting of a person who reaches adulthood with the feeling of being between two waters and not belonging anywhere is explored in an autobiographical key. The work also proposes reflections on the transmission of cultural identity from parents to children, something essential for the development of people.
The interpretation and staging of the play is simple: it is a very intimate and contemporary proposal, since the text is fundamentally an autobiographical monologue (played by Pedro Mas himself) linked with the poems of Damià Huguet. It is a very interesting work due to its autobiographical nature and because of the transcendental and universal theme that it deals with. Además, It is important in the promotion of Mallorcan literature, since the use of Huguet's poetry can help to recover it; especially among the younger generation, to which this author may be quite far.
Guaret will be at the Municipal Theater of Bunyola next 9 January in an evening session.
