TRIBUTE TO THE POET MANEL MARÍ
Finally, the act of homage to the poet Manel Marí, will take place on friday 4 of September, a las 19:30 horas, with a short recital at the Pou bar in the port of Ibiza, where a plaque commemorating the 45 anniversary of his birth. Singer-songwriter Joan Murenu will perform some poems he has set to music.
The Ibiza Town Hall has installed a second plaque on the facade of the Old Cemetery in Ibiza with the poem 'Al cementeri vell'. The plaques have been made by the ceramicist Toniet.
The poem 'Nocturn a Can Pou', installed on the façade of that well-known establishment in the port of Eivissa, to whom the poet dedicated many works:
Much farther than the places I've bought without you,
in the last bastion of marble trenches
soberly resisting the traffic that is exploding the port,
to the most avid of the years, in the face of retaliation,
with the wooden wall and centuries-old silence
barely moved by the shouts of orders,
the guttural howls of a coffee maker,
sixties versions of sixties songs,
or the murmur of conspiring young people's conversations,
Old people losing at cards,…
the poet Manel Marí, referent of the Ibicenc language and literature, established himself as one of the young authors of Catalan poetry. It was awarded the Ciutat de Palma Joan Alcover 2007 and in 2009 was awarded the Joan Climent poetry prize. Author of an extensive individual work, also present in several poetry books and different anthologies, Manel also participated in international literature and poetry festivals. Manel Mari died on 31 of January of 2018. At Friday's event, a USB will be presented with the audio recordings of the event that took place in Can Ventosa on 20 March 2018, co-edited by Ibiza Town Council and with AÏllades Productions, where poets participated, from both Ibiza and Valencia or Mallorca in an event coordinated by the translator and writer Nora Albert.
With this tribute and the installation of plaques in the cemetery and the Can Pou bar, Ibiza Town Hall pays tribute to the person and poetry of Manuel Marí.
