THE SANTA MARIA HIGH SCHOOL GIVES THE PRIZES OF THE IV LITERARY COMPETITION OF CLASSICAL CULTURE JOANA MARIA POL I FIOL
The IES Santa Maria hosted the awards ceremony for the IV Literary Contest of Classical Culture Joana Maria Pol i Fiol el pasado 23 of June. This contest of stories about some aspect of the Greco-Roman world is aimed at ESO students, baccalaureate and basic FP and was established in memory of Pol i Fiol, who was coordinator of the center's library. Maria Cardona, the current organizer of the library explained that this year they have participated 50 Stories. He also thanked the collaborating institutes for their involvement because "It is never easy to do activities for students to participate and this year it has been more complicated due to changes in the law". The person in charge of the contest announced that the next edition will include "a category in which we will receive drawings from sixth grade students for the cover.".
The first coordinator of the contest, Agatha Martínez, He commented that the date of the event was chosen due to its proximity to St. John's Day as a tribute to the teacher who lends her name to the contest.. Martínez also gave "encouragement to the authors to continue writing and researching.".
The event was attended by the writers and former teachers of the institute Bernat Joan and Milagros Pierna to remember Pol i Fiol. The first highlighted his "immeasurable love for books" and the second noted his "infinite patience with the students and with everyone who passed through the library". Professor Joan Villamor concluded: "She was a true citizen of the institute".
