JOHN BOYNE is the writer of the month of February in the municipal Library of Can Ventosa on the occasion of the 50 anniversary of the birth of the Dublin writer. With his fourth novel, The boy in the striped pajamas became known internationally. The work was translated into more than forty-five languages, including braille.
JOHN BOYNE (Dublin, 1971) studied English literature at Trinity College Dublin and creative writing at the University of East Anglia in Norwich (England), where he was awarded the Curtis Brown Award. He began publishing stories and the year 2000 it was his first novel, the thief of time.
en 2006 Boyne published his fourth novel, The boy in the striped pajamas with which he became known internationally. The work was translated into more than forty-five languages, including braille. The Catalan translation of The boy in striped pajamas, in charge of Jordi Cussà and Anna Camps, published by the publishing house Empúries, It was the first John Boyne novel translated into Catalan.
From the story of the friendship between a Jewish boy deported to a concentration camp and the son of a high Nazi official, more than six million copies were sold and he received many awards, among the ones who, twice, el Irish Book Award. It was also a finalist for the prestigious British Book Award.. In Spain, the work was awarded the Readers Award 2007 from the magazine 'What to Read’ and managed to stay more than a year on all the best-seller lists. en 2008 Mark Herman directed the film, “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” distributed by Miramax, based on the novel.
