Roberto Calasso, Formentor Prize
The Italian novelist and essayist Roberto Calasso has received the Formentor Prize for Literature 2016, delivered during Formentor Literary Conversations held in Pollença (Mallorca), in recognition of the “alumbradora prose” his work and his ambitious speech “with philosophical, aesthetic and moral from many sources”.
They consider responsible for the Formentor Prize, for whom it is “art test in Roberto Calasso reaches one of its highest expressions, perhaps unique in the recent European culture”.
The award coincides with the publication of his new book Castilian “Burning”, published by Anagram, which explores the religion of ancient India and civilization of extraordinary richness that flourished around the texts of the Veda three thousand years ago (knowledge).
Formentor Literary Conversations, held this year under the title “spirits, ghosts and banshees. Tales from the Darkside in literature”. Además de Calasso, President and literary director of the publishing house Adelphi, participate in these meetings the editor, Jorge Herralde, or authors of Anagram Vicente Verdú, Berta Marsé, Marta Sanz and J.A.. González Sainz.
