INTERVIEW WITH CARLA SANTÁNGELO

Carla SantángeloCarla Santángelo Lázaro was born in Mahón, Balearic islands. Desde 2014 lives between Latin America and Spain. He has a master's degree in Advanced Journalism and Reporting from the Ramón Llul University (Barcelona) and Master in Creative Writing from the National University of Tres de Febrero (Buenos Aires).

Currently studying the Master in Literary Studies, Linguistic and Cultural Studies of the University of Seville. Writes and researches. en 2016 I co-found the Indigo Editoras project. He also works independently in the fields of publishing and communication.. Guide workshops as part of Casa Indigo and on your own, in which he explores the link between intimacy and writing, always with a gender perspective.

1-to get started, I would like you to briefly tell us about the Casa Indigo project and the Indigo Editoras publishing house., where you teach intimate writing workshops with a gender perspective.

Indigo Editoras is a feminist cultural project that was born to articulate autobiographical writings and gender studies in literature.. On the one hand, there is the Indigo Libros publishing house, with which we publish contemporary authors who write in those hybrid genres so difficult to catalog and that were historically conceived as marginal (it all started because we loved reading intimate diaries). On the other hand, this House Indigo, a content platform dedicated to a community of women interested in intimate writing and literature with a gender perspective. Writers, fond of writing, readers and curious, you are all welcome.

2-In your collection of poems edited by "Aguaviva ediciones" you drag us through the Menorcan territory where the lineage, language and childhood have a great role. What influence does Menorca and Argentina have on “Lichen"?

Menorca is the initiation territory. There i was born. It is the place of early childhood, where it opens, For me, La Mirada. And it is also a place that I miss because I have lived far away for years. I recall her over and over again; it is the island of my nostalgia.

Argentina is very present in Lichen because it was the space of the present in the writing of poems. From where he wrote and from where he looked towards the island.

But it is also present as a landscape, Well, a large part of the poems I wrote during a trip to Patagonia that I did with my mother and in which I was amazed by the lakes, snow and steppe all the time.

3- It seems that "Lichen" speaks from a voice that calls for silence and is woven between a language that belongs to the beginning. What relationship is there between silence and the small in your poetry?

For me, silence is what produces the state of listening necessary to attend to the beauty of small things, that in the end are the ones that matter the most to me. How small, the everyday, what does not seem important, which is minimal, produces an amplifying effect of the big questions we ask ourselves.

If I can't be humble to shut up, I will not be able to see what is around me and the poetry will go unnoticed. Be quiet, look and object go hand in hand.

4- In the third epigraph the poetic voice advances towards nature, towards the landscape, joins him as if the breath happened through this: "Sometimes I would like to forget everything / bury myself in the forest / be a nest for the birds". How has nature influenced your writing?

Nature relocates me. Show me my size, let me, effectively, silent. It's so mysterious, destructive, vulnerable, need. It's all we are. I usually find in nature (if I understand it as a kind of place outside the city and the industrialized territories) what I need to remember. It is in this gratitude exercise that I write.

5- Are you thinking of a new book or artistic literary project?

I am finishing editing a collection of poems that will be published next year, although everything is still in a very tender stage. And I'm also in the process of writing a four-handed essay with a friend. It would be precious if it finally materializes because our searches dissolve into each other.
