This Thursday 31 May will be held the awards ceremony of the IV convocation 2018 the short story contest EDICIONS Aïllades-Ferrer Foundation Julian Vilás. This contest was born thanks to the initiative of the director of EDICIONS Aïllades, Ramon Mayol,, and the patronage of the Julian Vilás Ferrer Foundation that supports. It is a contest of stories on topics related to Ibiza and Formentera, written by new authors resident in Ibiza and Formentera.

The book Stories Ibiza It begins with an account of Rosalia Bazan (stage name of Laura Ferrer Arambarri). Sometimes, when you enter hands a winning story, a high first prize, before reading, you wonder how it will come to be. Then, After reading the question disappears, it is obvious that it is the winner. Castilian first prize in the first edition 2015 Rosalia was to Bazán. His story is cool, and it is full of humor.

It is a story told in the first person about a girl who comes to the island of Ibiza to work in a local newspaper story. Much fun from beginning to end. With astonishing ease the author turns a tragedy into a comedy. You can glimpse the butterfly effect, what happens to a person who does not know and is hundreds of kilometers changes the life of the protagonist.

I have highlighted this story because I think it is very difficult to make people laugh with a book where there are no images, or grimaces, or tone of voice, or a visual context that promotes easy laugh.

But all the stories in this book are loaded with emotions, and subtle portraits of the reality of the islands, their places and characters. Palpable are Ibizan traditions and ancient times of courtship, the killings, emigration to America. The story of the river port of Santa Gertrudis is described in such detail that you do not know whether it was fiction or reality. We will have to continue work.
